\x0a For the record, I actually went as a Mad Men secretary/wife two years ago (not my fault that the Gawker editor thought I was Ethel Rosenberg), and I’m kind of dreading the proliferation of Joans at this year’s Flavorpill Halloween bash. Is she the Amy Winehouse costume for 2009? To avoid the embarrassment of an uncreative costume, check out Flavorwire’s several lists of dress-up shtick suggestions (no to MJ, yes to GG; moustaches always rock; Franzia can be cool; Rick Astley’s still got it). Then, grab a ticket to our charity shindig, and find me on the dance floor come the 31st. That’s where I get all my kicks, tricks, and treats. Happy Halloween, New York.\x0a

Microsoft Store Mimics, and Enhances, the Apple Store Experience

    \x0a

This tidbit about the (creepy) Microsoft Stores is interesting. Microsoft’s direct entry into retail is already going to strain a lot of their existing retail and OEM relationships. This is only going to exacerbate the problem. And it sends a terrible message to people: “Our PCs are great, but not the way all of our OEM partners sell them.”

    Italicized: immutable truth.

    \x0a

The biggest problem Microsoft has is a bunch of brand-destroying trial software and garbage tacked-on brand experiences from the likes of HP and Dell.  Eliminating those and rendering the operating system as originally intended - free of this garbage - is exactly what Microsoft needs to do.  If their OEM partners hate it, I don’t think it matters, because that just creates a huge business opportunity for Microsoft to be a class leader in the hardware space.
